CONNECTING ARTISTS, SMALL BUSINESSES & NEIGHBORHOOD STORIES -
In Newark, artists are integral to the life of the city—they shape how we understand its beauty, complexity, and potential. Their work defines the cultural identity of our neighborhoods and reflects the spirit of our communities. CITY OF CREATORS brings that vision into our storefronts and into the daily experience of downtown, creating meaningful visibility for local artists and small businesses. In doing so, it not only supports creative practice but also strengthens the connections between culture, community, and Newark’s local economy.
Mayor Ras J. Baraka, The City of Newark
The vibrancy of our city is shaped by small business owners that create experiences, craft delicious food and offer unique goods and services each day along our business corridors. The art in CITY OF CREATORS celebrates the wide variety of businesses across our Urban Enterprise Zone while also encouraging more people to shop, eat, and enjoy these corridors. Replacing vacant storefronts with engaging art also highlights these locations as spaces of opportunity for future businesses or activations.
